About HAL and Nar-Anon

Hope After Loss – HAL

Hope After Loss is a growing and evolving piece of Nar-Anon. We are part of the Global Online Region and will be a permanently virtual group.  Our focus is on providing support to those who have lost a loved one to the disease of addiction.

The only requirement for membership in Nar-Anon and HAL is that there be a problem of addiction in a relative or friend. Many of our attendees are regular Nar-Anon members who have experienced the death of a loved one to the disease of addiction. While open to all, the Hope After Loss meetings are focused on the unique situation of finding hope after loss.

HAL was created in April 2020 through one person’s vision and with the help of just a handful of very dedicated survivors, who believe the Nar-Anon Program is still valuable in helping us heal even though we no longer have an active addict in our lives.

HAL has grown significantly and now has over 400 members. Sadly, with the mental health and addiction crisis, the need for survivor support after loss is being heard throughout the whole world.   We have members who live in countries around the world.

The circumstances of loss are a harsh reality; however, we are very happy our new members have found a safe place to share their grief without judgment; and benefit from the experience, strength and hope from other members who completely understand the feelings of devastation, helplessness, and hopelessness after we have lost the fight to keep our beloved addict alive.

HAL now has 4 weekly Nar-Anon zoom meetings, one of which was started primarily to provide those of our members in other countries a chance to participate at a time of day which is more in line with their time zone.

To strengthen the healing journey, we also provide opportunities to participate in Step Study Groups.

It is truly sad we must be here, but it’s fulfilling to know we offer something to our members which may help them face one more day until they can attend the next available meeting.  The virtual world, with all its’ limitations, has given Hope After Loss the opportunity to be a beacon of light and hope to so many around the world.

Nar-Anon Global Online Region

Hope After Loss is part of the larger Nar-Anon community. Nar-Anon meetings are organized into Regions. While most regions are geographical, HAL is part of a new Global On-line Region, that was born out of the Covid pandemic, when many meetings went virtual. Members of the GOLR will remain virtual and will not be affiliated with a specific geographical location.

Nar-Anon Family Groups

The Nar-Anon Family Group is primarily for you who know or have known a feeling of desperation concerning the addiction problem of someone very near to you. We have traveled that unhappy road too and found the answer with serenity and peace of mind.

When you come into the family group, you are no longer alone but among true friends who understand your problem as few others could. We will respect your confidence and anonymity, as we know you will respect ours. We hope to give you the assurance that no situation is too difficult, and no unhappiness is to great to be overcome.
